Waterproofing of showers, bathrooms, decks and balconies is an important process in the construction of any new building or renovation. It is even more important to waterproof them properly and with the correct products. Waterproofing processes are “out of sight” it can also be “out of mind”, and is often completed unskilfully and inappropriately by tilers and other tradesmen whose core business is anything but waterproofing. Failure to provide a complete waterproof seal under showers and decks can prove to be costly.

The “Flexi-Seal” system can be applied to most substrates = concrete, cement board, gib , plywood, particleboard etc. Step 1 Clean substrate, dry and free of dust and contaminants. Step 2 Fill holes, particularly on plywood decks and particleboard floors. “Flexi-Seal Nail ‘n Screw” Patch for this process. Step 3 Requires the bondbreaker mechanism applied. Floor/wall and wall/wall junctions are filled with a “Sikasil C” compound. Larger gaps require a foam-PEF backing rod to be installed first. Then “Butylseal” bondbreaker tape is applied. Step 4 Involves the application of a single saturation coat of “Flexi-Seal Sealer / Primer” on concrete, gib and cement board. Use “Mega Prime” on plastic and foam substrates. After 1 hour cure the waterproofing process can begin. 45–60 minutes of drying/curing before the second coat is applied. Recommended adhesives, as tested, are available for tiling through tile shops.
