Kooltherm K10 Soffit Board

Kooltherm, closed cell phenolic insulation offers significant advantage to both specifiers and installers.
Supplied in 1200mm wide sheets and available in a range of thicknesses and finishes, it has the lowest thermal transmittance of any commercially available insulant.
Kooltherm is highly resistant to water vapour transmission and has a compressive strength of 175kPa.
Kooltherm is the best choice for Green building: is is manufactured under and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System; it contains no CFC’s, HCFC’s and is zero ODP, with a BRANZ appraisal underway

Application/Purpose

Kooltherm is used extensively through out Europe as a premium performance insulation material in domestic commercial and industrial construction.
It is suitable for use in wall cavities, under ceilings and under timber and concrete floors; it can be friction fitted, cast in-situ, surface fixed, battened or suspended.
Also well suited to use in retrofitting existing buildings, Kooltherm delivers very high Thermal Resistivity (R) values without the need for elaborate support structures; ensuring compliance with building code requirements. With a thermal resistivity almost twice that of some glass wool and polystyrene products and a density of 35kg/m3 it is an easy to install and efficient solution.

Benefits/Advantages

Because Kooltherm offers significantly higher R values than any other commercially available material of the same thickness it delivers a significant reduction in the ongoing energy/running costs of the building without sacrificing valuable internal space and/or impacting negatively on the environment and the buildings occupants and users.

Composition

Kooltherm is a foil or tissue faced phenolic core board.
The nature of phenolic materials is such that the densely cross linked structure of the aromatic benzene rings is very difficult to break. As a result phenolic is very resistant to degradation.
The foil or tissue facings applied to the Kooltherm offer a range of finished appearances and solutions, dependant on the application. They also allow excellent adhesion with materials such as Gib board.

Technical Properties

Kooltherm Phenolic has a number of outstanding properties which make it a unique type of insulation.
Kooltherm Phenolic is the most thermally efficient material available, which means that insulation thickness can be minimized and environmental performance optimised.
Kooltherm’s closed cell technology offers excellent resistance to water vapour transmission and water absorption, in addition it is non-wicking; this makes it the ideal material where condensation risk is encountered.
Kooltherm also has excellent fire performance with a low flame spread index, low smoke and low toxic gas emissions. Kooltherm’s cross linked cell structure is very resistant to degradation and very difficult to ignite.

Installation and Maintenance Summary

Kooltherm is normally mechanically fixed with manually or mechanically driven fasteners. It can also be installed as part of a wall or ceiling system. The lightweight sheet supplied in a size suitable for handling by one person make on site fabrication and installation a simple and efficient process. Kooltherm requires no ongoing maintenance.
